Quote from: Towelie on Nov 21, 2015, 10:32 AMErm weird... Black friday started this friday in Romania
So I assumed it's like that everywhere. Probably better though because people will still have money for the actual black friday xD

A lot of stores are doing Pre-BlackFriday deals, which is probably what you've seen :P And they're doing it all week, but the actual Black Friday when everyone will be killing eachother in shops is next Friday @Towelie :P

I have a mid-spec computer, it dramatically decreases my performance, however, sometimes i can cope with low fps for the fabulous graphics it offers. I really want it to stay as i think it really uplifts the aspect of the server and makes it look like a much better place!

As me and many other players have said, it isn't SFT, just that weve grown out of it all. It's not your fault, or anyones, and theres no way to make us come back really. Just boredem takes us away...

As a side note, I've come back and started to play factions again :-)

As dark said, its down to the user. And who's going to wear a ridiculous looking thing on their head all the time?
39
I was amazed when I saw the price too, and I think this really is the start of making sci-fi real! If it is within that price range, I'll certainly be buying one. Unfortunately, its still in its developer stages and there's a long way to go!

Holographic technology lands on planet earth December 2015

Windows 10 powers one of Microsoft's most exciting technologies ever. Microsoft HoloLens give you the power to drop virtual screens onto walls, visit distant locations in person and add apps to anywhere in your home.

Turn your house, office and anywhere else you find yourself into a fully interactive digital hub for work, play and creativity. Windows HoloLens is a new standalone device and doesn't need a PC to run.

With the release of Windows 10 on July 29th, Microsoft has announced that it's new HoloLens will run Windows 10 as smooth as any computer would. With a similar look and feel to windows tablets, but with that super modern look! Apps such as skype, and office will work as they do on your computer, with holographic keyboards and hand sensor technology, it really is a new age for computing.

When it comes to gaming, minecraft will be one of the first games made for the HoloLens after Microsoft's recent purchase of Mojang. You'll no longer be looking at your minecraft world, you'll be in it! Building your own blocky world in your home. Not only this, but Windows 10 is cross compatible with XBox one, which means you can enjoy your gaming experience, even without the console. And don't worry about laggy games, the HoloLens will have Intel's newest "Cherry Trail Chipset" for a smooth, clean finish. The experts who made the XBox Kinect, are investing their time in making sure that the motion sensors for the HoloLens are the best yet! You can say goodbye to faffing around with cables! The hololens will come with wireless charging, so you'll never have a day without power again.

And all this, isn't too far away. There is no official release date yet for this new branch in engineering, but it is expected to be around December 2015. Worried about the price? It isn't going to be a ridiculous sum of money, it's expected to be around £300-£600!

This really is a new age in technology, and it isn't far away.

20% tax IRL where I live. 8% is nothing xD. Cute animal will save the server from extinction doh :)

Windows 10 to be released July 29th
From BBC News

Microsoft's next generation of its operating system, Windows 10, is due to be released next month.
The company said PCs and tablets running the software would go on sale on 29 July, at which point the OS would also be offered as a free download to existing users.
The roll-out of the product for smartphones, Xbox games consoles and other kit will follow later.
One expert said the release could prove critical to the Microsoft's fortunes.

Windows 8 - the current iteration - has had a troubled life, with many deciding not to update to its touch-centric user interface.
The company has acknowledged the fact by returning some features dropped from the more popular Windows 7.
"We designed Windows 10 to create a new generation of Windows for the 1.5 billion people using Windows today in 190 countries around the world," wrote Terry Myerson, Microsoft's vice-president of operating systems, on its blog.

The new Edge browser allows users to annotate web pages
"Familiar, yet better than ever, Windows 10 brings back the Start menu you know and love."

Many company watchers had not expected the launch of the product to happen until later in the year.
One analyst said the release was important as it might be "Microsoft's last chance" to crack the tablet market before Android and iOS became too entrenched, but added that it was unlikely to drive demand for new equipment in the same way earlier Windows updates had done.

"Microsoft and Intel are certainly pushing the two-in-one device strategy [in which laptops transform into tablets], which could result in some sales," said Michael Silver from the tech consultancy Gartner.
"But it's not only the fact that the upgrade is free, but Windows 10 for PCs is designed to run on computers that ran Windows 7 and even do better on less powerful hardware, so it will not spur on sales to the same extent as we've seen in the past."

----------------------------------
Additional Information:

Windows 10 is completely FREE for anyone running on the latest edition of Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 (Check lists online to see if your compatible.)

You may notice a little windows icon in the bottom corner of your screen, this most likely means that your computer is compatible, but use its check feature to make sure!

Users using early versions of Windows 7 and under will not be liable to the free upgrade.

For user's who can't upgrade for free, windows 10 is expected to be between 99 and 199 US dollars but is currently not officially known.

You can upgrade for FREE from July 29th 2015 to July 29th 2016. Once you've upgraded, you've got the full version for free.

Your current OS depends on what version of windows 10 you get. E.G. Windows 8.1 PRO gets Windows 10 PRO and so on.

It's highly advised to wait a while before upgrading as many bugs are likely to crop up and reviews will be posted to make you decide whether or not to upgrade!

I believe it does within reason, not 100% accurate! But i'd love this to be introduced with all phones, i'd certainly pay for it!!!!

Windows 10 App coming to iPhone and Android
From Gamespot News

Youtube Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=74&v=lXREpLEwgOY

Microsoft previously stated that its plan for Windows 10 was to have it reach 1 billion devices by 2018. Now, it's becoming clear how Microsoft will do that: by bringing the operating system to non-Windows devices.

The company on Tuesday announced that a Windows 10 companion app will be available for iOS and Android devices alongside the main version for Windows devices.

"A real challenge people face is figuring out how to make everything work together," Microsoft's Joe Belfiore wrote on the Windows blog. That's why we’re announcing a ‘Phone Companion' app built-in to Windows 10, which will help you connect your Windows PC to whatever phone you own--whether it's a Windows phone, Android phone, or iPhone."

Once you sync up your iPhone or Android device, you'll be able to access your files and content across PC and phone. Check out the full blog post for a detailed breakdown of how this works.

In addition, Microsoft announced today that Windows 10's Siri-like digital assistant Cortana--named after the Halo character--will also be available for iPhones and Android devices. Cortana can fetch net-based data such as web results and weather reports, among many other things.

However, there will be some limitations.

"Although the functionality will be very helpful, because it's "just an app" there will be certain things that Cortana does on Windows phones that won't work on Android devices or iPhones," Belfiore said. "Some features require access to the system that aren't currently possible with iOS or Android, so things like toggling settings or opening apps won't initially be available in the Cortana companions for those platforms. Similarly, the ability to invoke Cortana hands-free by saying 'Hey Cortana' requires special integration with the device's microphone, so that feature will be limited to Windows Phones and PCs."

Windows 10 launches this summer, first on PC. The new operating system will also be integrated into the Xbox One, but not until "post-summer."

First phone to have a "Holographic like" virtual keyboard
From BBC News

Chinese electronics giant Lenovo has unveiled a phone with a built-in laser projector that can be used to display a virtual keyboard or display.
The interactive display can replicate the phone's touch screen, a full-size computer keyboard or even piano keys.

The laser projector can also be used to beam images and videos onto walls.
The Smart Cast phone was unveiled at the company's Tech World conference in Beijing, where the firm also unveiled a new type of smartwatch.

The laser projector measures just 34mm by 26mm by 5mm and, said Lenovo, does not need focussing to project sharp images onto walls or other flat surfaces.
A video showing the Smart Cast in action shows how twisting the mounting for the device's lens turns it from a standard wall projector into "surface mode" that beams the display on to a table top.

The Magic View watch reveals a second "private" projected screen when the device is held close to the face
A kickstand mounted on the back of the phone keeps the device upright while the virtual keyboard is in use.

At Tech World, Chinese concert pianist Lang Lang used the virtual keyboard to play a version of The Entertainer.
Mike Lowe, reviews editor at gadget site Pocket-lint, who has tried out the phone said there was far less delay using the virtual keyboard with the Smart Cast than was apparent on other devices with similar input systems.

"The history of the projector phone is hardly rosy," he said. "Samsung launched the Galaxy Beam in 2012 and that bombed. It's not been a booming industry for any other manufacturer since."
Mr Lowe said his experience with the phone did not convince him that the Smart Cast would break that cycle.

Lenovo suggests that its Smart Cast phones' projected images could be used to play music and games
"It's fun, but ultimately a gimmick," he said. "It's hard to be accurate with the increased scale of the keys for starters, plus the demo was in a dimly-lit room."

In a separate demonstration, he added, Lenovo showed ways to use the interactive projected display to play games.
"It's fun, it's headline-grabbing, but it's also impractical, not coming to the UK and well, just isn't a product anyone is likely to genuinely need," he said.

Tech World also saw Lenovo show off a smart watch, called Magic View, that has two screens.
The device has a standard "public" screen viewable by anyone and a second "private" projected screen only visible when the watch is held close to the face and at a specific angle.

This seems to be in it's early stages, but this certainly could be a new beginning of technology.

It'd be great for things like iwatches though! Think how light it'd be

Old News / [Technology] Thinnest TV Ever Made

Thinnest TV Ever
From CNN Technology

In the future, commuters will be shuttled around in self-driving cars, and couch potatoes will be able to peel their TVs off of walls.

LG Display (LPL)showed off its newest, thinnest-ever TV panel at a press event in South Korea Tuesday. The 55-inch display is about as thin as a DVD and weighs less than a 13-inch MacBook Pro, which is 4.5 pounds, or 2 kilograms. It can be hung on a wall using a special magnetic mat.

Amazing as it is, the ultra thin TV is only a proof of concept for now -- you won't find it in a Best Buy near you anytime soon. But it shows the potential of OLED, the technology that makes it possible to make high definition displays flexible, thin and lightweight.

At the press event, the head of LG Display's OLED group told reporters the company would increase its OLED production this year.

OLED displays are made from sheets of organic (carbon-based) materials which emit their own light. As a result, manufacturers can eliminate the layer of fluorescent backlighting found in traditional displays, such as LCD screens.

LG and Samsung sell several OLED TV models already, but they cost thousands of dollars, and aren't nearly as thin. It might take another five years for the prices to come down in order for larger OLED displays to be commercially viable, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

The real benefit of OLED technology will most likely be realized within wearables, digital cameras, smartwatches, tablets and mobile devices. The malleable technology provides more saturated colors, higher contrast and greater brightness than LCD displays.

GTA V Sues BBC over Daniel Radcliffe film
From BBC News

Rockstar Games - maker of Grand Theft Auto - is suing the BBC over a drama called Game Changer.

The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as Sam Houser, the Briton behind the hit computer game series.
It's about the clash between the firm and a US lawyer, Jack Thompson, who wanted the violent games banned.
Rockstar Games wants to ensure its "trademarks are not misused in the BBC's pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events".

Mr Thompson believed he could prove a link between playing the games and violent crimes.

He attempted to sue Rockstar on several occasions but the judges ruled against him.
The film's script is based on David Kushner's 2012 book, Jacked: The Outlaw Story Of Grand Theft Auto. It is written by James Wood (also responsible for Rev), and directed by Owen Harris (who made Black Mirror and Misfits).

Hollywood star Bill Paxton plays Jack Thompson. Filming is already under way with its release scheduled for later this year.
In a statement to ign.com, Rockstar said: "Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company) has filed [a] suit against the BBC for trademark infringement based on their movie currently titled Game Changer as it relates to Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto video game series.

"While holders of the trademarks referenced in the film title and its promotion, Rockstar Games has had no involvement with this project.
"Our goal is to ensure that our trademarks are not misused in the BBC's pursuit of an unofficial depiction of purported events related to Rockstar Games.

"We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter with the BBC without any meaningful resolution.
"It is our obligation to protect our intellectual property and unfortunately in this case litigation was necessary."
The BBC says it won't "comment on legal matters.

Grand Theft Auto lets players to behave like criminals, hijacking cars and gunning down bystanders, including police officers.
GTA V earned $1bn in its first three days on sale, becoming the fastest selling entertainment product in history.

Obscene image shown on hacked US billboard
From BBC News

Hackers have managed to make a huge video billboard in Atlanta display an obscene image favoured by internet pranksters.

It prompted calls to police, and soon after, the billboard's owner cut off its power supply.

The hack came after a security researcher warned the company, which runs thousands of the video billboards, that they were vulnerable to attack.

The FBI and Homeland Security are now investigating the hack.

The attackers are believed to have been able to take over the billboard because it used an easy-to-guess password on its net-connected remote administration system.

The billboard is owned by US electric-sign giant Yesco, which runs thousands of similar billboards across America.

Other signs in other states are also believed to have had their images changed at the same time.

Security expert Dan Tentler said in a tweet that he had warned Yesco about the potential for attack, but the company had told him that it was "not interested" in his information.

Mr Tentler said it was easy to find hundreds of other signs on the internet that were vulnerable in the same way.

Many of these signs were still online after the hack attack had taken place, he added.

A group calling itself the Assange Shuffle Collective claimed responsibility for the attack, in a discussion on social news site Reddit.
However, there has been no independent verification of the claim.
