Fshhhhhh, we have tinder for that.
I mean, nobody wants to see you slapping your ass in front of a camera.

I'm sorry but we're talking about minors here, and minors shouldn't be on tinder. Nudes shouldn't even be a thing with minors. There shouldn't even be a ''place'' for ''that''. This isn't a joke.
K, I changed it

Okay but think about that potential situation. Do you really think that the parent of this child supposedly sending nudes is going to take some random person (who has their child's nude pictures) at all seriously? If I were that parent, I wouldn't trust anyone on the internet that my child is talking to, especially if they are claiming that someone else has been sending inappropriate pictures to my child.

This has no stable foothold or any legal stronghold on either SFT's side or the parents side. And think about it, if a parent thought that people on SFT were sending nudes to each other, that parent would do anything it takes to report our server and try to get it shut down for exactly that reason.

I stand by my point by saying we can only intervene if it is in our jurisdiction, which is on our server and forums. Anything outside of SFT, we cannot control.  :steve:
We can't control legally, but we can sure ban them from SFT.

My personal opinion is that the ban given is clearly a measure to make sure that doesn't spread on SFT.
Also if something of the kind drops to our attention it is our duty to contact the authorities informing them of the situation.

Again, it's a Minecraft server, we aren't the police department of the Internet. If it violates our rules, then ban them from SFT. Then it's done and over with.

After a 15 (what was supposed to be 9) hour flight back home from Italy, this is one of the first things I see. I hate to see that this was a needed post, but if this is what it takes to keep to community clean of all this, I'm all for it. great post Towelie :)

Bingo.
I've handled these cases more times than I wish I'd had to. These people met on SFT and stay in contact on SFT and are active on the SFT community. Who do you think is getting the blame when person A spreads person B's nudes around to other people they met on SFT and are active in the SFT community. None of these situations had people using /msg or forum PMs to spread nudes. But SFT is the base ground, just like school's are for cyberbullying, or when I respond to player arguments that happen in Skype.

SFT's community is more than just forums and ingame. If it affects our community then it's our business.

It's sad it has come down to this. Imagine being a guest visiting the forums for the first time, and one of the top posts you see is "Regarding Nudes". That's pretty welcoming. I saw a veteran reacting to this for the first time in chat, he was not excited about it. Of course, it wouldn't be here if it wasn't needed. It is just awful that it has to be here.

What about the person/people that ask for the nudes and spread them around? I feel they are just as responsible as the person taking and sending the nudes. Forever ban as well?

omelott

The bottom line is, don't send nudes in the first place. It's a stupid idea. :P

Right, and that's part of why I think SFT should get the parents involved. If SFT reaches out to the parents, and let's them know what has happened, I think that paints a far better picture of us than if we just ban the offenders and try to pretend nothing happened. In the latter case it's certainly possible that the parents never find out, but if they do find out, they're probably going to be far more inclined to target us, as well.

Y'all are being a little bit dramatic IMO. Teenagers are horny little things and no one has any right to invade their privacy if it hasn't directly come into contact with the SFT community. Now, should you send nudes to random people you met on minecraft? Nope, probably not. But if you trust the person you're sending it to and if you're not being a total retard and including your face/anything else that can identify you then I don't see why it's such a big deal. Nudes are technically child pornography but I've never heard of kids going to jail for sending titty pics. Anyone who knows me like that knows I'm not a nudes person, but I know plenty of people that are and I see nothing wrong with that unless it's to a point where it's like every kid in the county has seen your coochie.

wtf am I even talking about like this is a gaming community what even is this rn lol. Or, supposed to be.

But if the whole server knows you can't keep it in your pants then you've got a problem and you need to pls stop. and put your phone away, pull up your pants, and go outside. away from me. thx.

As someone who has received more nudes than I can count, 90-95% being completely unsolicited, I'm really not tryna see it and chances are it's like that for most of us.

But in all honestly, I think this whole thing is just way more dramatic than it needs to be. Idk the extent of the situation and I agree that people shouldn't be blasting their nudes and sending it to everyone in their address book- but a global ban with no chance of unban over a booty pic? That's just... way too extreme. And reaching out to the parents/authorities is ridiculous and no one here has any right to do that. You're not their parents or the police and hearing from a grown adult that your child is sending naked pictures is a little bit creepy if you ask me. I agree that a warning or maybe a ban if it persists should be issued if it's to the point where it's way too out of hand; but banning Johnny because Johnny sent a picture of his penis to Susie this one time is like ??? We're a gaming community ?? Why's it our business ? And if Johnny continues sending pics to Susie, she can just block him. Maybe Johnny should be banned if he's spamming her as well as Jessica, Monica, Katie, and Anna w pics and it's basically harassment, but otherwise like... no dude.

This post is kinda all over the place bc I'm like taking part of 3 conversations and typing this after getting distracted so ya sry but that's just my 2 cents.

I don't.
It's a crime and a very serious one that could yield 5 years in prison and registration on the sex offender list.
By sending a nude as a minor you are basically distributing infantile pornography.
From a community owner's point of view, this could very well destroy my community because parents will perceive this as a community where minors exchange nudes.
Seing as I had to make this post, clearly shows Several such situations occured which degenerated into very serious situations.
And this is exactly my point as well, this is a gaming community not a god damn dating site for  minors.

I have a question about how this rule is going to be enforced. Is this rule going to apply retroactively, and if so, to what extent?

Given the number of cases that have become public information, especially recently, I have to assume there are a number of cases of this that have managed to remain private. If someone engaged in an exchange a month ago, and does not continue to do so now, will you target that person? What if it was a year or more ago?

I'm sure there are a number of people that have looked at this post and started panicking because they don't want to be banned/have their parents brought in, etc. Though I'm not in that group, I felt I should ask this so that the people who want that answer can have it without having to ask it themselves.

Its completely understandable that you don't want the blood on your hands, but I think the contacting police portion is a bit extreme. Contacting parents alone is harsh but evidently something needed to be done about all this. I just feel that it's really up to the people directly involved (unless its through a server or service SFT provides, which would then make you directly involved) whether or not to pursue criminal charges. Like you said, 5 years and registration on the sex offender list, which could completely dumpster someone's future over a stupid mistake. It seems more situational to me, if its just an exchange, while its not right, its not necessarily the same magnitude as something like sexual harassment, threats or blackmail. Dunno. I guess let's just hope we don't have to get to that point, right?

Anyways, action evidently needed to be taken and you took it. Thanks for handling all this.

Quote from: Towelie on Jul 25, 2016, 06:08 PMAs of this moment, any minor caught sending nudes to anyone (regardless if the receiving party is a minor or not) will be punished with a permanent global ban from all our servers and forums (with no chance of unban).
Further on, attempts will be made to contact the minor's family and inform them.
^Those are the actions that will be taken

Towelie was just saying that it is a crime and that it has consequences, not that he intends to contact the police. Ultimately, that decision should be handled by the parents.

This post was made because it was leaking into the community. Its better to have a clear no tolerance policy on the matter then nothing at all. Yes it may seem too personal when it includes skype conversations but when players make contact on our community and its spread through players on the community it is a community issue. Taking no action when its a known issue is not an option when it comes to something as serious as this. Also as Fractalion has said Towelie didn't say police would be contacted, just that families would be attempted to be informed.

Exactly this. I'm not gonna go around getting kids in jail, but I am going to attempt to contact parents where possible, FOR ACTIONS HAPPENING FROM NOW ON!
Because it's my only way to deter this kind of behavior.
If you're not gonna think for yourself that a) you're commiting a crime by sending nudes as a minor or b) these can and probably will come back to you when they get leaked due to someone attempting to take revenge or simply hacks / leaks like it happened with the icloud hack, then I am going to try to think for you.
What you do in the comfort of your own house is your own problem but you need to be aware that as soon as you are doing it on the internet it means that there is a chance it may go public and cause you huge distress and serious life-lasting issues.
Not to mention that I am ultimately looking after SFT's interest as well. And SFT's interest isn't to have a bunch of kids send nudes to each other. This can be extremely damaging to SFT and its reputation.

I remember this type of tall being drilled into my head, and I guess my class when I was 9/10 years old. Idk, maybe they should move the age up to 12-13.
I'm not sure how relevant this is, but I guess some people are being taught.. "Too young?" And forget that when they come to these situations.
Also need to think if whoever sent the nudes was being pressured or threatened or not, what happens when this is the reason they sent the nudes?

I remember this type of tall being drilled into my head, and I guess my class when I was 9/10 years old. Idk, maybe they should move the age up to 12-13.
I'm not sure how relevant this is, but I guess some people are being taught.. "Too young?" And forget that when they come to these situations.
Also need to think if whoever sent the nudes was being pressured or threatened or not, what happens when this is the reason they sent the nudes?
you get threatened -> you tell your parents.
Sending nudes as a response to being threatened isn't an option

@Towelie , besides sending nudes, what are the punishments for asking and spreading them? I feel like a good portion of the blame falls on their shoulders as well
