As you know, Summer is a time when SFT does very well. It's when we bloom and we get the most players/donations and everything works just awesome.
However, there comes a time when Summer ends and we are back to our sub-10 players deadzones and our ~30 player "rush hours". It's part of the normal cycle and I expect that when we reset World2 we will get a small popularity boost, but still, the problem remains that we need more active players for this period to survive.
So please spread the word about Super Fun Time  and our Survival/Pixelmon/etc servers. Tell your friends (word of mouth is always the best working method), post on social media so your virtual friends can see and in general please try to bring new players on SFT.

ColesyM is currently working on an antigriefing sollution for our Unturned server.
Once that's ready we should finally be able to run an open server and might even be able to turn it into PvP. (But a form of Limited PvP where raiding will not be possible).

In the middle of all the Mojang DMCA drama (and Mojang being bought by Microsoft roumors), we are trying to focus on our other (smaller) server which in my opinion has a lot of potential - Unturned.

Seing as it looks like we are stuck on this version (1.7.10 /w 1.8 compat) for at least a few months, we will wait one more week, and if there are still no developments to the whole bukkit/spigot situation, we will do the world reset, only after I discuss with Managers+ and see how they think abuot it.

What does this bukkit/spigot situation mean for SFT? Quite probably we will be stuck on the current version for a loong time (months), until this is resolved or until someone comes out with an alternative project to Bukkit/Spigot.

I opened this ticket system because it's very easy to lose player's help requests in PM's and I believe this will be more efficient. You guys open tickets and then I have a list of things that I need to do which I will do when I have some free time.

With regret I must inform you that it looks like bukkit/spigot (the heart of our servers and what allows us to have plugins and nice things) are dead. They have all suspended their downloads and are now stuck into what seems like a lengthy legal battle with the person that made this happen (read in an earlier post by me if you want to know the story).

What does this mean for us? This is probably the last update the server will get, at least in this form, so enjoy.
In the future (next few months), it will be crucial for us to establish the path we want to take. Staying on an older version is unacceptable for me, but from now on you might notice it takes us months to update to the latest version instead of hours/days. This is because the entire minecraft community is trying to find a Bukkit replacement and currently the only one seems to be CanaryMod or a combination of CanaryMod and Forge.
Problem is, people that run CanaryMod, it's just two of them, they have full-time jobs and they are still to this day stuck on 1.6.1 (Version). So things are uncertain now and we are basically stuck to 1.7.10 /w 1.8 compatibility.

The only party that could solve this is Mojang, however they seem to be extremely quiet and I believe they'll stay the same.
For now, this is a battle of the lawyers and until this is solved (could be months, years) and hopefully sold favorably we have to explore new options  / search for new alternatives.


tl;dr -> Bukkit's Dead, so is spigot, we are waiting for them to solve it which could take months but at the same time looking for new alternatives. Server won't update past 1.7.10 /w 1.8 compatibility until we find a viable alternative.

[What this means for SFT:]

tl;dr -> Bukkit and Spigot got DMCA'd because an old Contributor of Bukkit (Wolvereness) has filed a DMCA as mojang is using his code and violating his GPL license because Minecraft is not GPL software

Non tl;dr:
Key points to start off:

    First: Wolvereness is not a part of the section of the Bukkit team which was hired by Mojang.
    Mojang have claimed that the GPL license used by CraftBukkit is invalid due to the distribution of Minecraft server files with CraftBukkit.
    Wolvereness has claimed that Mojang are violating copyright over code he authored in CraftBukkit as he committed it under GPL [EDIT: It seems his claim is largely about him not being notified of Mojang's ownership of Bukkit despite him already being a contributor].
    He has therefore submitted a DMCA takedown on CraftBukkit's downloads.
    If Wolvereness' takedown is deemed valid (there are bad consequences if it isn't), then Mojang will need to do one of the following things:
        Remove all of Wolvereness' code.
        OR not use CraftBukkit and update it at all.
        OR pay / otherwise convince him to withdraw it.
    The problem with this is that his code is rather crucial to the project - he has authored the 3rd most contributions out of anyone.

There are some complexities to the current situation, these being:

    Nobody is 100% sure whether the DMCA is really valid or not - however we can assume Wolvereness is very confident because there are heavy consequences for submitting an invalid one.
    Mojang are not allowed to release an updated Bukkit without making the source public.
    Nobody can download CraftBukkit [EDIT: Bukkit repo is now down too] until it is resolved.
    Even if Wolvereness' code is removed ANYONE else who has a single commit to CraftBukkit can submit a similar DMCA.
    It is also unlikely that Mojang will even try to update Bukkit before the DMCA's are entirely sorted out.

lukegb has now made some comments (from irc.esper.net #bukkitdev):

Would indicate that Bukkit maven repo is coming back up (note: not CraftBukkit afaik)

What this means for SFT:
We don't know yet. Too early to call.
Worst case scenario: No more bukkit updates.
Best case scenario: Mojang settles in court and pays the guy. Since Mojang is directly affected here.

What I think: I have no f*** idea to be honest. Whatever it is it's gonna be interesting to watch.

RecentlyI have seen a wave of posts from people trying to improve the community and resolve certain problems theyare noticing.
For example, the "girls get unfair advantages" post the "Let's be nice to each other" post, and the "Don't flamebait" post.

These posts are really good topics and commendable but I am afraid that by spamming our forums with such posts has little to no effect.
I don't want to insult any of you who made these posts and I don't want to upset you / cause you to leave, but the contrary.
However, I don't like that these posts are used for either forum post count boosting or trying to impress people.

What I ask instead, rather than opening 1000 posts that are common sense, report to me or staff members any offending facts along with proof and it will have 100 times more effect than just a post on the forum.

Also, I would like to condemn the manner in which everyone is just posting "Yes, very good post, awesome idea" and instead I am asking you to not just routinely post a phrase but instead try to get involved in these posts, tell us what you understand from them, what you think would make it better and so on.
Having 100 responses that are all saying "good idea" won't help anyone but having 100 people contributing to fixing a problem is bound to give one good result.

I feel like I had to make this topic to adress this in a sensitive manner. I didn't want to but it had to be adressed.


Another thing I'd like to adress, are the 'I'm leaving" post. Those bring nothing but drama and lower the morale. Either make the posts less dramatic ("I'm leaving, I'm sorry it has to end" etc is an example of drama), or if something made you leave, tell us so we can fix it.

I have just completed an update to Survival & the other Hub Servers that allows 1.8 clients to join.
Technically, the server is still on 1.7.10 but it uses an upgraded protocol that allows 1.8 clients to join as well.

What broke during the update:
- EchoPet (will fix soon, waiting on update)
- SFTCosmetic (Plugin that stu made handling /hat /armor, effect tags, name tags). The plugin remains functional atm but there are errors in console so i expect bugs to appear. Stuart is working on an update
- Unknown if there are other new things.

This is a reminder and an advice to download Unturned (Free on steam) and play with us.
What is Unturned? It's a very promising zombie-survival game with minecraft-like graphis and advanced mechanics. Vehicles, Firearms, Melee weapons, Electricity and Base building are amongst its core features.

I personally believe Unturned has the chance to become the next minecraft. Currently it's an early release but the game's maker (a 16 year old) is working hard on adding awesome features to the game.

Updates:
- Added VAC Ban Checker. Anyone that is VAC Banned will not be allowed on the server
- Added Lag Spike Fixer. This claims to fix the lag spikes that the server encounters when there are multiple builds (apparently they were caused by the server saving the map when every player quit the server.
- Added Vehicle Respawner. Every 15 minutes destroyed vehicles will respawn now
- Reset the map  to see if it fixes saving issues. If it doesn't, we'll revert to old one.

We have succesfully updated to 1.7.10.

I wanted to say a few things to the community (players/staff) so I didn't know exactly how to put it but I believe it's best in this post.


Flymod for everyone (For a month)
- Limax007 was generous enough to purchase Fly Permissions for the entire server, for a month. To use it, type /fly, then double-tap SPACE, to stop flying type /flystop
- Even though you own Fly Permissions (Regardless if you bought it before or have it now), you are NOT allowed to use it in events/pvp or any other areas where it may give you an unfair advantage. Don't think that you won't be punished if you do abuse it.


Contacting me if you need something
The biggest "NOT TO DO" thing around is to spam me when I join with stuff like "TOWELIE TOWELIE TOWELIE I NEED YOUR HELP". If you need my help, there are 90% chances you don't. Ask yourself: Could a JMod/Mod/Manager/Admin solve this instead of Towelie? If the answer is YES, contact other staff members. If the answer is NO, send me a FORUM PM and patiently wait up to 24h for a response (another thing that pisses me off is seing shoutbox spam saying TOWELIE LOOK AT MY PM, TOWELIE, DID YOU LOOK AT MY PM?. I am a busy person, I have a life and a job outside of SFT, and I will do my best to answer you at my earliest convenience. Did I forget about you? Quite possible. I have a lot on my mind and I some-times forget. Calmly remind me when the 24h have passed and don't mention it again.
If you have a burning question about SFT and you need me to answer it, chances are any staff member or even older players will know how to answer you. So try that first.



Got a new account / Transferring stuff to the new account
If you get a new account (i really don't get why people change their accounts so often), you can transfer 90% of the stuff yourself. Only things I can transfer for you are permissions. In order to ask that, post a forum thread saying your old account, your new account and a proof that you own both. I cannot transfer uptime. You can transfer your money balance yourself, and you can ask a Mod to add your new nickname to your protection (but ask from your old nickname otherwise chances are, they won't believe you)


Spamming in shoutbox if a server is down / or impossible to access
Whenever one of our servers are down and we are aware of that, you will see a thread about it on the front page. So refresh the page and see if there is any post before you proceed to spamming the shoutbox.
If there isn't, try to alert me on skype about this (or to ask a manager+ to alert me since they know how to, even if I am not at home). If i do know about it, hearing 1000 beeps is frustrating and prevents me from focusing on actually fixing the server

Our Unturned server is down? Posting in the shoutbox about it will help but if you want to get it back up faster, try contacting Me or Excon as we are the ones who can restart it. IF you don't know our skypes, ask a Survival Manager+ to get me.



Reporting Staff abuse / Staff Issues.
So you've discovered a bad staff member. A rotten apple. Or maybe a problem in the way we manage the staff team. The worst thing you can do is post about it and try to come up with your ideas to solve it. If we thought you were good enough to do that, we would've recruited you. Instead, contact HoS/HoS Helper/Me (HoS = djkirsh, HoS Helper = funkymonkey245) and report it with proof.

There's nothing more that makes me dislike a person / ignore their claim even if it is valid than a pompous 100 page text. Keep to the point, be concise, use proper grammar and phrasing and have a calm tone if you want the best response for me.

So, I am posting this thread out of my own initiative, and not because dpa asked me.
I am posting it because I feel it's needed. He was very upset over the drama created after he reduced the donator shop prices. What started as a way to re-balance donations, and fix our bad situation that we were in (we had no donations for weeks), ended in a cry fest of older donators wanting a refund and whatnot.
A logical question that dpa himself posed: IF you bought a PS4 now for 399 and sony dropped its price to 200. Would they send you the difference back? No. Nobody would do that. We have to adjust with the current sitaution and the current situation was that people weren't donating any more so if we just stood idly by and did nothign we probably would've ended up really bad.

This doesn't end at some people just saying they want a refund, no. There are people that threatened to quit and said that they hate dpa now for doing this.

I came here to deliver a simple warning: Start showing dpa the respect and appreciation he deserves or there will be no pixelmon. Dpa is seriously upset right now over the way he is being treated about reducing the prices and was even considering quitting pix due to that.

I hope you understand and show dpa the love/appreciation he has earned by working so hard, at times even 16h at a time.

The Survival Donator Shop was updated to be EULA Compliant.
We have removed all the EULA violating items.
We will probably take a serious hit to donations received and from here on we will probably have to reduce / downsize if donations don't at least cover our costs.

My least favorite time of the year. When school starts. It's when our servers start taking a huge hit in playerbase and players online. It's when we hit ~10 players in the deadzone and ~30 in the rush hour. It's the time when we struggle to get by, when we can barely cover our monthly donation goal and when we have to resort to spending hundreds of dollars on advertising / month to get by.
Let's just say it's not such a good time for SFT.

Since StarWars is such a big thing I couldn't just leave it with one crate and move along.

On Survival, you can now catch Mobs (just like pokemon )
NOTE: The plugin is in test phase and it may get removed/altered if it causes problems

To catch a mob, throw a chicken egg at any aggresive/farm animal. It will cost 5k / farm animal and 10k / aggresive mob to catch and the catch chance is at 50% (but you get charged only when you actually catch the mob).

Some mobs (enderdragon, wither, blaze, ghast, villager, creeper) were disabled to fix any potential griefing issues.
I have tested and you cannot catch people's pets so that's good.

What's new:
Loot respawn - Every 30 min the loot respawns now. That means that you won't have to wait for a server restart to find loot now (however, that also means that every 30 min, dropped items despawn so don't leave your items on the ground)
We can now kick/ban players. So if you notice any griefers, let us know.

NOTE: I have reset the game world but I have kept a backup of the old one in case people have too much to object about the reset. In my opinion the reset was needed as the towns were griefed to hell.

Hey guys, I'd just like to make an appeal to you guys and to ask you to help us in an hour of need.
I'll jump straight to the point:

- We are currently seing a slight improvement in the number of votes that we are getting but it is still on a downwards trend (less votes) compared to ~6 months ago. We can't afford to let this happen because votes are what keep us going and we need to get back at least in the first page for visibility. Please vote! Please vote daily on all the voting sites. For you it's a gesture that takes a few seconds, and sure it's human to be lazy but please, if you care about SFT even the slightest bit, take those few seconds of your time each day to vote for us! Vote daily!.

- We are seing a drastic decrease in donations in the last ~week. This is worrying but still not catastrophical. I'd just like to enquire why people aren't donating and wondering if it's something we can fix or simply other reasons that are not within our control.

NOTE: SFT is not about to die. We don't worry about the present, we worry about the future. We've always had a "money buffer" that would allow us to continue for a few months even if donations stopped coming during that time.



Some Information you may like:
- Survival Server isn't doing too bad. Can't say we're too "overcrowded" but we've got just the right amount of players in my opinion. So the number of players is not so much of an issue at the moment. Probably this is going to become an issue when summer vacation is over.
- Pixelmon Server is doing great player-wise. ever since the update (and being the 1st server to update), we've had a lot of new players coming each day, even more than survival. Players aren't the problem here for the moment. Dpa is doing an awesome job at running the Pixelmon Server and he deserves our support and admiration for constantly pulling all-nighters and missing a lot of sleep over updates and other problems.
- Our Unturned server is going great, with players online at almost all times. We just need some way of managing the server (admin commands, etc)
- Website traffic is going good.

I have re-vamped the SFT Chat.
Instead of using Mibbit we are now using KiwiIRC.
What does this mean for us? No ads, no more color spam, you can now enable desktop notifications to be notified when your name is typed, you can now share files using dropbox/and other services directly in the chat.

We are hoping to make the chat the hangout place for SFT-ers who wish to socialize but cannot play minecraft.

I have added Build My Thing on our Survival Server.
To get there, type /build. To leave type /bmt leave. There are bugs. For example, if the arena is full or if a game is in progress, when you type /build you won't get any message informing you why you can't join you just won't join.
This is an early plugin and I am sure the authors will update it / fix some of these bugs.

I had a lot of fun with 15 other sft-ers (2 min players, 16 max).

I have put together an Unturned Server for you guys (I am looking forward to checking it out as well).

I have set up a Fistful of Frags Server.
Fistful of Frags is a free to play game, similar to tf2 but set in a wild west setting (or at least that's what I gathered from watching ~10 seconds of gameplay).

I've set up a server but I didn't get to test it seing  as I am not home so please let me know if there are problems with it.
