Since our website was "hacked" a few months ago (actually they were able to obtain the password of one of the owners because he used the same password on another site which got hacked. Bad @saywhat2365 !), here are some quick tips to make sure your accounts don't get hacked!

#1 Don't use the same passwords for every website
#2 Make your passwords tough to guess but easy to remember. A good password starts from a phrase or an expression which you can easily remember, which you then add some special characters to. Let's take the old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". I'd make a password such as 1Apple/DayK33p$Doc4way
That password is secure enough to not be cracked by brute forcing or guessing.
#3 Make sure nobody but you knows your recovery questions (where available). Don't get fooled! There's a thing called social engineering which basically means that people will ask you questions to try and guess your security questions.

Example:
- Hey friend, let's get to know each other better.
- Fine
- What's your pet's name ?
- Petty mc pet pet
- How about your mothers maiden name?

So if you don't want to be easily hackable 1. Use separate passwords for applications 2. Make sure your passwords contain one of each (uppercase, lowercase, number, symbol) 3. Don't get tricked into revealing sensitive info!

Stay safe!

PS: Don't rely on using symbols instead of letters too much (like $ instead of s and so on) because any decent password cracker with a dictionary will try all the combinations.

or you can have common sense and know this for yourself.

since i go to school right now for cybersecurity i can help a little bit more xD

never use a dictionary word or a combination of letters/numbers easily traced to you like initials and birthdate

you can ise a phrase but using it backward make it (statistically) 1000 times harder to crack

mix cases

things like this people know happen but its still hard to crack for any program

Lucy_23x

I usually remember mine as they get extremely complex through a certain way of saying it, rhyme or poem or something.
If that helps anyone xP

I've always imagined you as like a old irish man that drinks whiskey and screams at people to get off his lawn while sitting on a bench in the park. But I'm pretty sure that's not the case because if it was: 1. you're a pedophile and 2. you're a pedophile

Just out of curiosity, has anyone used 'dashlane' to store their passwords?

I'm curious as to whether it's safe or not - https://www.dashlane.com/

omg u noOB NOW IM GOING TO HACK YOU!11!one!

I'm guilty of bad passwords, although my email password is different from my "default" password. Here's a tip: make a "base" password, then an underscore, then something related to the website you're on (while using all the other tips above). It's easyish to remember, and isn't common enough that it won't be tried. Also, check out this happy inspiring article, it's for people that have a goal.

I probably wouldn't use this personally..
I don't really trust any websites that ask for any information, unless i really know/trust them.
If you can't be bothered getting a pen and paper, just use notes on your PC, heh.

Honestly, this is exactly what you should NOT do with your passwords.

If you can't remember your password without writing it down, you probably shouldn't use it to begin with.

You are better off sticking with a set of secure passwords, that you can remember, and use them accordingly.

So long as you don't use a generic password or something too common you should be safe. No need to go crazy and encrypt every password you use.

Towelie

Yeah I'd just avoid sites like thay.
