LDLC won DreamHack Winter 2014 with a 2-1 success over NiP in the final (16-10 on de_dust2, 4-16 on de_inferno and 19-16 on de_overpass).

LDLC started out strong, beating NiP 16-10 on NiP's map pick, Dust 2, with a convincing Terrorist-side performance, coming back from 6-9 at half time. NiP, however, challenged the Frenchmen, winning 16-4 on LDLC's best map, before losing 16-19 on a very tense overtime on the final map, Overpass.

LDLC have become the 4th team to win a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive major, denying NiP the opportunity to become the first team to win two of the $250,000 events. The French team take home $100,000 and NiP, $50,000.

Following mass attention on reddit of the following clip of flusha supposedly cheating at ESL One Cologne ($250,000 tournament in which his team took home $50,000):
,
pita, NiP's coach, has called for flusha's ban, stating "It's a fking disgrace to the community and every hardworking player if @csgo_dev put flusha thru to play Dreamhack. Its obvious as can be" on Twitter.

If flusha were to turn out to be cheating, he would have helped his team, fnatic, currently the best team in the world, to win in excess of $250,000 since this time last year, plus another $150,000 this week, assuming he attends the DreamHack Winter tournament.

Titan and Epsilon have been disqualified from DreamHack Winter following the VAC bans handed to Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian and Gordon "Sf" Giry, the event's organisers have confirmed.

Questions about Titan's and Epsilon's places at the Swedish major were immediately raised after Hovik "KQLY" Tovmassian and Gordon "Sf" Giry were caught in Valve's web as the latest wave of VAC bans struck the CS:GO scene today.

To replace the two French teams, a LAN qualifier will take place on Saturday at Inferno Online Stockholm with four Europeans teams in attendance, all of whom will be flown by Valve itself.

DreamHack is currently reaching out to teams potentially interested in attending this qualifier, and the participants' list will be revealed shortly. The tournament will use a single-elimination format, with every match being played in a best-of-three mode.

Old News / [eSports] NiP sign Maikelele
Nov 04, 2014, 05:34 PM

Following the departure of Fifflaren, The Ninjas in Pyjamas are proud to announce the recruitment of a new player to the roster, to play under a trial-period. Mikail Bill, formally known as "Maikelele" on the CS:GO scene, a Sweden based player with a past in teams like SK Gaming and LGB eSports, has been invited to play for NiP. Mikail has happily accepted the offer from the organization and starts playing with the team during this week.

Emil "HeatoN" Christensen had this to say about the new recruit:
"He is a young and hungry player that has impressed me a lot over the last few months. He has a lot of people to prove wrong and we have decided to give him a chance of a lifetime and we will see what the future shows. I know that he will cherish this opportunity and do his best to make the team move forward. I am confident that he will find a place in the NiP family, that his trial-period will go well, and I wish to officially welcome him!"

The theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real and God is not "a magician with a magic wand", Pope Francis has declared.

Speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Pope made comments which experts said put an end to the "pseudo theories" of creationism and intelligent design that some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, Benedict XVI.

Francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator – arguing instead that they "require it". "When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so," Francis said.

He added: "He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment."The Big Bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it. "Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve."

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been suspended from all football-related activity for four months for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Liverpool player, 27, has also been banned for nine international matches, ruling him out of the rest of the 2014 Fifa World Cup and will also miss the first nine games of the Premier League season, returning for round four of the Capital One Cup on 27 October. Suarez has also been fined 100,000 Swiss francs (£65,680).

"Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch and, in particular, not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field,"
-- Claudio Sulser, chairman of the Fifa disciplinary committee, said in a statement.

Uruguay have three days to appeal against the decision.

Luis Suárez  ensured that the headlines would be his. In the 79th minute, having tussled with Giorgio Chiellini, the Uruguay striker leaned into the defender with his forehead and, moments later, there was Chiellini, pulling down his shirt over a shoulder to reveal what, on the evidence of close-up photography, looked like a bite mark. Why always him? The over-worked Mexican referee, Marco Rodríguez, took no action.

What do we make of this?

Here's what he did to Ghana in 2010:

He then got a red card, Ghana got a penalty and hit the bar. They then lost to penalties. Uruguay went through, preventing Ghana from being the first African team to ever reach the semi-finals of a world cup.

I think he should at least be banned from the remainder of the World Cup; as Ian Wright said on ITV "The guy has some serious problems, man". He's already done it before - twice - during his time at Ajax and Liverpool.

Bankruptcies resulting from unpaid medical bills will affect nearly 2 million people this year—making health care the No. 1 cause of such filings, and outpacing bankruptcies due to credit-card bills or unpaid mortgages, according to new data. And even having health insurance doesn't buffer consumers against financial hardship.

The findings are from NerdWallet Health, a division of the price-comparison website. It analysed data from the U.S. Census, Centers for Disease Control, the federal court system and the Commonwealth Fund, a private foundation that promotes access, quality and efficiency in the health-care system.

"A lot of Americans are struggling with medical bills," said NerdWallet Health Vice President Christina LaMontagne. NerdWallet estimates that households containing 1.7 million people will file for bankruptcy protection this year. Even outside of bankruptcy, about 56 million adults—more than 20 percent of the population between the ages of 19 and 64—will still struggle with health-care-related bills this year, according to NerdWallet Health.

"With an average American family bringing home $50,000 in income, a high medical bill and a high-deductible insurance plan can quickly become something they are unable to pay," LaMontagne said. "If you have an out-of-pocket maximum of $5,000 or $10,000, that's really tough," he said. "A lot of Americans probably think about bankruptcy as coming from unpaid credit-card debt or mortgages," LaMontagne said. "But the root cause of all those troubles may well be medical bills."

Nigel Farage has unleashed his much-promised political earthquake across British politics as UKIP stormed to victory in the European elections, performing powerfully across the country. The Eurosceptic party's victory marked the first time in modern history that neither Labour nor the Conservatives have won a British national election.

Remarkable as UKIP do not have one MP in Westminster, the party received 28% of the public vote, gaining 24 seats (up 11 from last election).

Labour got 25% of the vote and 20 seats (up 7), Conservatives (current govt.) 24% and 19 seats (down 7) and then the Green Party beat the Liberal Democrats, receiving 8% of the vote (3 seats), compared to the Liberal Democrats dismal performance, yielding only 1 seat.

For those who haven't been following the election, here are UKIP's election posters (quite amusing):

As UK education secretary, Michael Gove, continues to steam roll his way over the UK education system with his GCSE & A-level reforms, he announces that he will be removing Of Mice and Men (currently studied by 90% of British GCSE students) and to Kill a Mocking Bird from the GCSE syllabus. Michael Gove says this is a "really disappointing statistic".

The Education Secretary "really dislikes" John Steinbeck's classic tale of itinerant workers George and Lennie, Of Mice and Men, and is keen to increase the number of British works studied by pupils.

Bethan Marshall, a senior lecturer in English at King's College, London, warned children would be put off studying English as a result of the move. "It's a syllabus out of the 1940s and rumour has it Michael Gove, who read literature, designed it himself," she told the Sunday Times.

A billionaire businessman (Khosravi) at the heart of a $2.6 billion state bank scam, the largest fraud case since the country's 1979 Islamic Revolution, was executed Saturday, state television reported. Khosravi's lawyer, Gholam Ali Riahi, was quoted by news website khabaronline.ir as saying that his client was put to death without any notice: "I had not been informed about execution of my client," Riahi said. "All the assets of my client are at the disposal of the prosecutor's office."

The fraud involved using forged documents to get credit at one of Iran's top financial institutions, Bank Saderat, to purchase assets including state-owned companies like major steel producer Khuzestan Steel Co. Khosravi's business empire included more than 35 companies from mineral water production to a football club and meat imports from Brazil. According to Iranian media reports, the bank fraud began in 2007.

A total of 39 defendants were convicted in the case. Four received death sentences, two got life sentences and the rest received sentences of up to 25 years in prison. The trials raised questions about corruption at senior levels in Iran's tightly controlled economy during the administration of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Ukraine's ambassador to the European Union said on Wednesday that Russia should face EU financial sanctions and lose the right to host the 2018 soccer World Cup because of its annexation of the Crimea region. Russia had crossed a red line by annexing Crimea and making aggressive moves towards eastern Ukraine and the EU must impose the tough economic sanctions it has threatened, he said.

The EU has imposed sanctions on 61 Russians and Ukrainians and frozen the assets of two Crimean companies in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine, but its 28 member states are divided over imposing tougher trade or financial sanctions because of fears this would damage their own economies and provoke Russian retaliation.

Yelisieiev urged the EU to show that economic and business interests did not prevail over what he called European values. He also suggested the rest of the world take steps such as to "withdraw the right from the Russian Federation to host the World Cup ... for 2018." Such a step would hurt the Russian leadership "because for Putin this is a huge political ... and financial project," he said.

Two U.S. senators, Dan Coats and Mark Kirk, wrote to FIFA in March asking it to convene an emergency session to consider suspending Russia's membership, strip it of its right to host the 2018 World Cup and bar Russia from this year's World Cup in Brazil. FIFA responded that only a violation of its statutes could lead to a country's expulsion from a competition. Russia was awarded the right to host the 2018 World Cup in 2010.

The EU should also support Ukraine by offering the prospect of eventual EU membership, giving it legal help to recover assets seized by Russia in Crimea, and by allowing Ukrainians to travel to the EU without visas, Yelisieiev said. The EU has said it is willing to provide $15 billion in loans and grants to Ukraine over several years to help get the shattered economy back on its feet.

After 10 years of negotiations, Russia's Gazprom and China's CNPC have finally signed a historic gas deal which will provide the world's fastest growing economy with the natural gas it needs to keep pace for the next 30 years.

Infrastructure investment from both sides will be more than $70 billion and will be the world's largest construction project, with Russia providing $55 billion up front and China $22 billion for pipelines on their respective territories.

The deal comes as a part of Russia's larger-scale pivot to Asia and especially China as Western economies threaten sanctions over turmoil in Ukraine. Sanctions by the US and the EU have been mostly limited to visa bans and asset freezes on some of Russia's top officials, while so far only threatening a so-called third round of real economic sanctions against Russian hydrocarbon businesses.

Russia has more than the estimated 3 trillion cubic metres in natural gas reserves in its gasfields, enough to last for 50 years, Russia's President has said commenting on the 30-year $400 billion gas deal with China.:
"This deal is for 30 years, while I think there's enough supply for 50 years. They are underestimated. Extractable reserves at the two deposits that we would introduce – Kovykta and Chayanda – are 1.5 trillion cubic metres of natural gas reserves each. Which means in total there's 3 trillion. In reality, I repeat, there's more," said President Vladimir Putin talking to the representatives of global businesses at the 18th International Economic Forum in St Petersburg.

Chinese scientists are developing a new approach to create "universal" blood: red blood cells (RBCs) that can be transfused into any patient, regardless of the patient's or recipient's blood group.

Blood groups are characterised by the presence (or absence) of various proteins known as antigens on the surface of red blood cells. A major issue of these blood groups is that blood mismatching occurs when the wrong blood type is used in transfusions.  The recipient's antibodies recognise the antigens on the donor red blood cells as being foreign and attack the cells – with potentially fatal results.

Scientists from Zheijiang University have used a simple method to mask the ABO group antigens by chemically modifying the red blood cell surface with polydopamine (PDA), a mimic of the bioadhesive produced by the mussel Mytilus edulis.

The eventual aim of the work is clinical application. Having a stock of universal blood that can be transfused quickly in emergencies, or for treating people with rare blood groups where stocks are scare, would be an invaluable resource for medics.

Hey guys,

It's Connor and as this was my idea, I thought I'd explain it to you all to avoid all possible confusion :)
During the project you would update as regularly as possible, and would be fantastic to add extra detail like pictures, stages of progress and just an explanation of what your project actually is. The best projects, that have put a lot of effort into not only the project, but the topic itself, will find their topic being pinned!

I have come up with a few FAQs...

What is the difference between Donator and Contributor?

Donators are the people that have donated supplies to your project( e.g They've gave you 6 stacks of logs, or 4 stacks of glass etc.), not people that have donated 40 planks or 5 stacks of dirt. Contributors are people that are helping to build and design(etc.) the actual project(as I said before you can give out ranks within the project).

Can I post any old thing that I'm building?

No. If you post things like: My house or Mud town, they will be removed. The projects have to be things that are not solo, and that people are helping you with(that's why they are called community projects). If you are unsure whether your project 'qualifies' for a community project, please PM the current Board Moderator and they will happily respond :) )

Can I add pictures, stages of building, and extra details?

Yes. Infact this is one thing I'd love to see, and if you put in a lot of effort(If it's ok with towelie) you might find it being pinned!

So what exactly is a community project?

A community project can be anything that is a project really, something like a  man-made chunk error or temple or an airport or a sky island/regular town etc. Or it could be something real like the statue of liberty  etc.

A community project can be practically anything! :D But the one thing i empathize is that you get as much people to help out as possible and put as much detail into your topic as possible(as the project goes on).

Remember: Sky island towns(in fact even official towns!) can be community projects! ;D

If you have any other questions, please post here and we will add the question and answer it :)

Thanks for reading :)
